How to work for CriticPunk


  • Writers and Editors:

    OverviewTypical Duties and Responsibilities - The main attraction to CriticPunk are the Reviews. Writers are responsible for creating, editing, and refining this content for publishing onto the site. As an "Editor Punk" the selection of the next form of entertainment to be reviewed is up to you. The editor must create and maintain their "Punk Profile" page. The editor can express themselves freely within their work. The editor can create or borrow from any "Rating System" that they choose, in order to summarize their assessment of the reviewed material to the reader. The writer must produce high-quality content which reflects the personality expressed within their respective profile. Ability to work with other editors for peer review. Ability to work with the development team for publishing. Ability to work with designers on key design adjustments; for example page layout changes. Must fully experience the prospective reviewed material, prior to publishing a new review.

    RequirementsNeeded Skills and Education - Exceptional writing skills. A minimum of a BA degree in any field, must be either completed or close to completion. No official work-related experience is required. Must provide one of the following forms of written work: critique, poem, or short-story.

    Added ConsiderationsAdds to the Applicant's Appeal - An available portfolio of related works or projects. Individuals with highly creative and critical-thinking mindsets. A keen eye for small details. Self-motivated.

    CompensationShort-Term/Long-Term Benefits - Negotiable upon active discussions. No short-term compensation or reimburstments should be expected, for any induced costs associated with the reviewed material.

    Work HoursFor a Typical Work Week - Make your own hours. All Punks are assessed entirely by their individual contributions to the site. Active participation in weekly online meetings and email exchanges.


  • Artist and Designers:

    OverviewTypical Duties and Responsibilities - CriticPunk is in need of artists and designers to improve the visual quality and intuitively enhance the user browsing experience. Such improvements include page layouts, creating custom graphics, formatting content, and editting/creating CSS. The artist and designer will work together, along-side the developers to plan and implement iterative site enhancements. Designer's will drive key requirements for new tools to be developed for improving and automating various tasks. Artists and Designers are encouraged to participate in any other cross-functional group such as 'Writing'. Designers are expected to conduct extensive testing of contributed work from other Punks. Designers are expected to document any and all changes of existing and future iterative designs.

    RequirementsNeeded Skills and Education - Experience with any of the following XHTML/CSS, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Flash, Adobe Illustrator. A minimum of a BS/BA degree in Web Design, or related field, must be either completed or close to completion. No official work-related experience is required. Must have analytical and creative skills.

    Added ConsiderationsAdds to the Applicant's Appeal - An available portfolio of related works or projects. Individuals with highly creative and ambitious mindsets. Experience with ASCII text editting tools like (notepad++ or vi). A keen eye for small details. Strong organizational, documentation, and project management skills.

  • Web Developers:

    OverviewTypical Duties and Responsibilities - CriticPunk was built with limited resources, over a limited period of time. There are many adjustments, optimazations, and additions that still need to be made. As a "Developer Punk", you will have direct input and control over the technical evolutionary improvements that can be made. These changes could include GUI/web browsing improvements like drop-down lists, user invoked database sorts and searches, or the ability for a user to post a comment to a review. Tool development is included for improving and automating various administrative and publishing processes. Developers are encouraged to participate in any other cross-functional group such as 'Writing'. Extensive testing of contributed work from other Punks. Procedural documentation creation and refining for existing and future iterative designs.

    RequirementsNeeded Skills and Education - Experience with any of the following languages XHTML/CSS, Javascript, PHP, Perlscript, Perl, Java, and C/C++. A minimum of a BS degree in Computer Science, or related field, must be either completed or close to completion. No official work-related experience is required.
